Starting and entrepreneurship

Starting stuff from scratch can be hard. But practice really does help.

Starting stuff is my sweet spot, my jam, my job

I’ve been in the game of starting stuff since I was 11 years old. Whether it’s starting stuff from scratch or developing projects within existing companies and teams, it doesn’t matter. Taking an idea that doesn’t yet exist within the world and turning it into something that has shape and form is what I’ve been doing most of my life. I see what’s possible and work until it is something that others can wrap their hands around (whether figuratively or literally).

As with anything you do over and over (and over) again, you get good at it. I don’t mind humbly admitting that, either: I’m good at starting stuff. That’s why “Starter” is one of the words I use to describe myself when given only three words.

As my array of projects demonstrate, though, starting and entrepreneurship isn’t just something I’ve done to add value to my life. Not at all. I’ve done just as much work to help other people start things and develop their entrepreneurial chops as I have to establish and build startups of my own. On this topic, it’s worth noting that I would much rather be a co-founder than a founder, because for me, building something is more about who I’m building with far more than it is what I’m building.

In short, I love starting stuff, and this is among one of the themes of my life—especially my work. No matter how old I get, I don’t see that part of me ever stopping. After all, I was made in the image of the ultimate Starter, Creator, Alpha, and Author. ☝️

In service of others

Knowing that my life is not about me, I aim for this theme of my work to help the various people I serve:

  • Enjoy that which I create on their behalf, whatever the project may be

  • Learn how to start ventures of their own with greater ease, ability, and focus

  • Celebrate the positive aspects of entrepreneurship, especially within Phoenix

  • Find community and encouragement among other starters like themselves

  • Present a contrarian view of entrepreneurship so that the “Hustle” culture so often promoted is not the only way that people learn they can build something

  • And more
